Lecco, lake and mountains

Star Wars Villa on Lake Como - Foto di Lago di Como, Lombardia - Tripadvisor

Lecco, Como and the main towns on the Como lake (Bellagio, Varenna, Tremezzo, etc.) offer a large variety of tourist attractions.

Some tourist information can be found at the "eccolecco" site. A fairly large set of maps of different nature can be download at this site managed by the "Comune di Lecco". More general tourist information about the lake as a whole and activities of interest can be found at this scenic site. Moreover, "Lecco, land of colors" proposes a few "routes" or activities". Descriptions are available in Italian and English. Even the "Lake Como Tourist Guide" is a good starting point.

If you instead want to explore the Como lake by ferry (highly advised), there are several options.

From Lecco, you can reach Bellagio by ferry with 1:30 hours of navigation (one way ticket 8.30€, timetables here).

From Bellagio, you can also reach by ferry the towns of Varenna and/or Menaggio, and the museum and botanical gardens of Villa Carlotta (one way ticket 4.60€, 15.00€ for a ticket for unlimited trips on one day that allows you to jump on and off the ferry on the circular line Bellagio-Menaggio-Varenna, timetables here).

Alternatively, you can directly reach Varenna from Lecco by train (two trains per hour, one way ticket 2.90€, timetable and ticket purchase here) and start your cruise on the Como lake with the circular ferry line Bellagio-Menaggio-Varenna (timetables here). The ferry station is only 400m away from the train station.

Finally, the peculiar  landscape, with the lake surrounded by mountains of modest altitude (these are stil the pre-Alps) but often rocky and difficult, generated a long and still alive passion for hiking, climbing and and activity related to mountains. This is the website of the "Osservatorio Alpinistico Lecchese", providing an interesting collection of videos, pictures, and mountain stories.
