Final Announcement

Astrophysical Polarimetry in the Time-Domain Era

Lecco, Italy, August 29 - September 1 2022

Dear friends and colleagues,

Modern astrophysics is increasingly characterized by large surveys able to identify transient or highly variable sources belonging to many different categories: supernovae, gamma-ray bursts, x-ray binaries, gravitational wave counterparts, flaring stars, novae, tidal disruption events, blazar outbursts, and numerous transients of unknown nature.

Transient sources or phenomena represent unique laboratories of unusual or even extreme physical conditions, often linking together multi-messenger observations. Among the many possible analysis tools, (time-resolved) polarimetry offers the possibility to derive information about geometry and physical processes driving the evolution of these events not easily obtainable by other techniques. New observatories have opened up an unprecedented wavelength range for polarimetry, from radio to gamma-rays, providing new views on astrophysics, and establishing polarimetry as a key capability to exploit the yield of large scale transient surveys.

This workshop aims at joining together theoreticians, observers, and instrument scientists to establish a profitable interaction based upon polarimetric studies.

The conference program is now complete and a preliminary schedule is already available. It is still possible to register to attend the conference, physically or remotely. And there is still room for posters.

Information is available at the conference web page: https://indico.ict.inaf.it/e/Lecco2022

Best regards,

the Scientific Organizing Committee

Early registration deadline reminder

Dear friends,

This is a gentle reminder for the deadline for early registration to the "Astrophysical Polarimetry in the Time Domain Era" workshop (https://indico.ict.inaf.it/e/Lecco2022) on July 7th.

In addition, a very preliminary schedule for the conference is now available on the conference website.

Best regards,

Stefano Covino, on behalf of the SOC

Call for abstract deadline reminder

Dear friends,

This is a gentle reminder for the deadline on June 10th to propose abstracts for oral contributions to the "Astrophysical Polarimetry in the Time Domain Era" workshop (https://indico.ict.inaf.it/e/Lecco2022).

Abstracts are welcome even later, but an early proposal helps us to arrange the schedule to allow as many colleagues as possible to deliver an oral presentation.

Best regards,

Stefano Covino, on behalf of the SOC

Hotels and guesthouse

Dear colleagues,

This message is just to inform you that if you plan to attend the conference "in person" one of the main hotels in Lecco agreed to offer a discount rate for rooms booked before May 30th.

You can find information here: https://indico.ict.inaf.it/event/982/page/496-hotels

In addition, we may offer rooms at 40€/night in the guesthouse of the campus to students, after a presentation letter from the surpervisor.

Given the limited number of rooms we have to follow a strict "first come first served" policy.

We look forward meeting you in Lecco.

Stefano Covino, Paolo d'Avanzo, on behalf of the LOC

Registration and Call for Abstract open

Dear All,

The SOC and LOC of the Astrophysical Polarimetry in the Time-Domain Era workshop, to be held in Lecco, Italy, from August 29  to September 1 2022, are pleased to announce that the registrations are now open. Early registration is possible till June 30th.

It is also now possible to submit abstracts for oral presentations. The deadline is June 10th.

Lecco is a relatively small city located at the end of the east branch of the Como lake (a “Y” upside down). It is a city with an important industrial heritage but also with a touristic vocation due to the lake and to the mountains surrounding it. It is one of the Italian capitals for climbing and other mountaineering activities.

Getting to Lecco is relatively simple. From the main airports in the area (Malpensa, Linate, Orio al Serio) you can either take a car or a taxi or, much better choice, you can get to Milan or Bergamo via train or shuttles in the airport and then there are rather frequent trains to Lecco.

Web page, registration, more specific information, will be distributed in due time.

Best regards,
