I set out to discuss a work of popular astronomy titled Philosophical Letters, in which the weakness of the arguments so far proposed in favour of plurality of worlds is demonstrated (Venice, 1765), by Apulian physician and natural philosopher Giuseppe Corigliano, and the context in which they were written.

The concept of the photon is often presented in physics education without highlighting the historical and epistemological processes that led to its development. To clarify the current understanding of the term “photon,” the present study traces its evolution from Einstein’s “light quantum” hypothesis till the development of quantum radiation theory and quantum optics.
