Description
As part of the enrichment of the educational offerings at the IIS G. Bruno – R. Franchetti in Venice-Mestre, a project is currently underway to establish a Historical Museum of Physics Education. The goal is not merely to display the antique instruments owned by the school—which was founded in the 1930s—but rather to create a true museum dedicated specifically to the teaching and learning of physics.
In a dedicated space, the high school's scientific library has been gathered. Within this environment, exhibitions of various educational materials have been set up with the intent of comparing the tools and methods used to build physics concepts today versus those used 40–50 years ago. The core of the museum consists of two historically famous physics education laboratories: the PSSC (Physical Science Study Committee) laboratory and the IPS (Introductory Physical Science) laboratory, both of which have a long-standing tradition in physics instruction at the Bruno-Franchetti institute. The work currently being carried out involves cataloging the experiments and verifying their feasibility, in order to make them available to the school community for outreach and training activities.
Centred around the Museum, several training activities have been conducted for students, who have overseen the setup of experiments for display, produced videos to illustrate the museum's activities, and designed the promotional poster.
