Chandra/CIAO workshop 14-15 September 2019, Bologna
following the X-Ray 2019 conference
Are you new to Chandra data and the Chandra Interactive Analysis of Observations (CIAO) software?
Are you an experienced CIAO user and would like to discuss advanced data analysis topics with CIAO experts?
Members of the Chandra X-Ray Center will host a two-day Chandra/CIAO workshop immediately following the the X-ray Astronomy 2019: Current Challenges and New Frontiers in the Next Decade conference on the week-end of Sep 14-15, 2019 in Bologna, Italy.
This is the first time such a workshop is offered in Europe but plenty of information about previous CIAO workshops (including previous presentations) can be found on the CIAO workshop webpages. If you have any questions about the content of the workshop please contact the CXC Helpdesk.
The workshop will take place in the premises of the Dipartimento di Fisica e Astronomia of the Bologna University, in via Gobetti 93/2. The venue is in front of the CNR (the venue of the X-ray Astronomy 2019 conference).
Students must register for the Chandra/CIAO workshop separately from the conference and they do not have to attend the X-ray meeting to attend the Chandra/CIAO workshop.
The registration deadline is 31 July 2019. Please register as soon as possible since there must be a minimum number of registrants by that date for the workshop to occur. There is no cost to attend the Chandra/CIAO workshop, but registration is required.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE WORKSHOP:
We strongly recommend that you come to the workshop with CIAO and the Chandra CALDB already installed on your Linux or Mac laptop.

We recommend that you have the latest version installed and also please bring any specific datasets you wish to analyze (if any).
If you have any problems installing CIAO please contact us via the CXC helpdesk, cxchelp@cfa.harvard.edu, or https://cxc.cfa.harvard.edu/help and we can help you before the workshop.We will arrange to have food delivered for lunch on Saturday and Sunday (for a fee) as there are no places to eat around the campus. We are told that there re vending machines for beverage and snacks during breaks. If you are concerned about food make sure to bring some before coming to the campus.
