    I will review the current state of our understanding of accretion and ejection in black hole X-ray binaries. While I will keep the talk current and topical I will also reflect on how working with Tomaso Belloni brought a much fuller understanding of accretion to someone trained in radio astronomy, and how looking beyond one's silo is almost always worth it.
