Description

This interdisciplinary workshop gathers together experts of galaxy evolution and accretion on compact objects and statistical physicists experts of complex dynamical systems. We want to stimulate interdisciplinary discussion through a mix of talks with ample time for discussion, and workshop-style afternoons. The plan is to discuss applications of statistical methods developed in the context of complex dynamical systems to astrophysical contexts such as black hole accretion disk/wind systems, gas accretion on galaxy and cluster of galaxy scales, star-formation histories in galaxies. We will discuss the best approaches to the analysis of these three broad contexts and the identification of other potential astrophysical contexts where the methods developed in statistical mechanics can provide interesting results.
