Description
The FOTOSS project has recently completed science-quality digitization of the Torino Astrophysical Observatory (INAF-OATo) photographic collection, consisting of several thousand glass plates featuring century-old astronomical observations, by means of a high-performance digitizer developed and operated by the Shanghai Astronomical Observatory, Chinese Academy of Sciences (SHAO-CAS). Such an accomplishment provides the ultimate preservation of OATo's historical photographic data and highlights the potential of its astrometric and photometric exploitation.
I will present the status of the project and give some details on the solutions adopted for the implementation of the main tasks, which could pave the way for the full digitization of other italian astronomical plate collections.
