Description
X-ray binaries are unique laboratories for studying the physics of accretion processes. They exhibit variability over a wide range of timescales, providing key information on the physics of compact objects and their surroundings.
Stingray is an open-source Python library designed to perform time series analyses and related tasks on astronomical light curves with a focus on X-ray astronomy. It comprises the most advanced Fourier analysis techniques, while also being able to simulate data and perform statistical modelling.
In this talk, I will briefly overview the main timing methods and I will show how Stingray can be employed to analyse X-ray binary observations, including the construction of light curves, power spectra, cross spectra, and other variability diagnostics. I will give practical examples on real observational data of X-ray binaries illustrating the workflow from data preparation to the extraction of scientifically relevant timing products.
