Trip to Etna
On Wednesday 10 July afternoon, an exciting excursion to Mount Etna awaits you!
The excursion begins at an altitude of 1,923 meters above sea level, at the departure station of the Funivia dell’Etna. In a modern cable car, you will reach the “Monte Station” at 2,500 meters in just a few minutes. Alternatively, you can choose to make the journey in a 4×4 bus.
Once you arrive, you will be captivated by the incomparable beauty of the landscape at this altitude, which can be enjoyed from the panoramic terrace of the bar: you can admire the summit craters on one side, and the Gulf of Catania on the other. From there, a special 4×4 bus will take you to the highest altitude allowed by the authorities in the summit area.
But the adventure doesn't end there. Your journey continues, guided by expert Alpine/Volcanological guides to ensure a safe and unforgettable experience in one of the world's most active volcanoes.
Participants will depart by bus from the conference venue ("Ettore Majorana" Physics and Astronomy department of Università di Catania) at 3:00 PM and will reach Rifugio Sapienza with an environmental guide to start the excursion. Return to Catania around 8:00 PM.
It is advisable to be equipped with a windbreaker, hat and suitable shoes. Very often at high altitudes it is cold and windy even in the middle of summer.
Social Dinner
The social dinner will be organized on Tuesday 09 July at 8:00 PM at the "Acqualavica" restaurant with a menu based on a typical selection of Sicilian food.
Acqualavica is located in the very city centre of Catania, 2 minutes walking from the main square of Catania, Piazza Duomo.
