Description
Bari has always been home to a large number of publishing houses, reflecting its vibrant intellectual life. Covering a wide variety of topics, they have attested the intense periods our Nation has gone through (the post-war era, the economic boom, the political activism and the Years of Lead, the decline and the gradual erosion of ideologies, the Berlusconi era and so on). Among them, we wish to highlight the work of Edizioni Dedalo, which has focused its sixty-year-old asset and mission on political activism and, above all, on popular science, always considered as a tool for social awareness towards a more informed society. In this contribution, following a general overview touching on various publishing realities in Bari, we focused on the specific case of Edizioni Dedalo, emphasizing, among other things,the diversity of their catalogue and the importance of their archive. Together with their ownership of Sapere, the magazine that lead the way in popular science in Italy, with its ninety years old. And the trust they placed in the project of il Manifesto, otherwise rejected by major national publishing houses
