We strongly advise the participants to find accomodation in Frascati, unless they come by car. Even if they come by car, please find accomodation in places nearby to the venue location, and not in the inner city center of Rome (due to traffic congestion). The LOC will organize a bus shuttle going each morning from Frascati centre (Piazza Marconi) to the venue (OAR) before the beginning of the sessions and again in the afternoon going from the observatory to Frascati centre.
How to reach Frascati
By Plane
In Rome there are two international airports, Fiumicino airport (the most important) and Ciampino airport (mostly for low-cost airlines):
- Fiumicino (Leonardo Da Vinci) International Airport (FCO), located 32 km west from the city centre is the largest airport in Rome and Italy.
- You can reach Frascati by public transportation:
- The easiest way from FCO airport is to take the train named Leonardo Express with destination Roma Termini, which is the main train station of Rome. The train is a fast and no-stop connection running every ~15 minutes and taking 32 minutes. The ticked costs € 14.00 and can be taken in the airport or on the Trenitalia website.
- From Roma Termini, there is a direct train to Frascati. The train is leaving about every hour, it takes about 30 min and costs € 2.10. Trains on the weekend may not run till late, please check the Trenitalia website. Please take care because the train may also leave from a special track (20bis or 22bis), that is located about 250 m from the entrance of the train station. Take some extra time to reach those tracks after the station entrance (5/10 min), if you see that the train leaves from there. The train arrives very close to the city center of Frascati, which is an easily walkable town, and you only need to go up over 100~steps stairs on the right to reach the city center (Piazza Marconi).
-
Note: due to infrastructure rail works, trains may be partially unavailable till September 4th, 2022. With the same ticket, you will be asked to get off in an intermediate station (Ciampino) and then catch a dedicated bus service to Frascati. Please always check the timetable on the Trenitalia website (Roma Termini - Frascati). In Ciampino, buses are leaving from the second entrance of the train station on the side of "piazzale Kennedy"A live timetable is available also here.
-
You may reach Frascati by taxi, but it may take about 40min or 1h depending on the traffic congestion, with corresponding high taxi fare. See "By Taxi" section for further information.
-
See the airport web page for other means of transport.
- You can reach Frascati by public transportation:
- The Rome-Ciampino International Airport (CIA), located 15 kilometres south from the city centre. It is much closer to Frascati than the Fiumicino airport.
-
Probably the easiest and fastest way to reach Frascati from here is by taxi. It may take about 20min, depending on trafic congestion, with a moderate cost. See "By Taxi" section for further information.
-
Otherwise you can take the Trenitalia Ciampino Airlink, with tickets available on the Trenitalia website (from "Ciampino airport" to "Frascati", one ticket for bus + train ride). From the airport, you will take a red bus which leaves every 20 minutes and goes to the Ciampino Railway station in about 5 minutes. From there, you can take the train directly to Frascati (no need to go to Roma Termini, that is in the other direction). The train goes directly from Ciampino to Frascati and it takes about 10 mins.
-
Note: also in this case, due to infrastructure rail works trains may be partially unavailable till September 4th, 2022. With the same ticket, you will be asked to catch a dedicated bus service to Frascati. See previous note.

See the airport web page for other information.

Late arrivals at the airports
If you arrive in the late afternoon or in the evening at the FCO or CIA airports, please remember that there may not be public transports to reach Frascati.
In such a case, we suggest you to:
- take a taxi directly from FCO airport, and ask to the driver if they can reach directly Frascati. The cost may be pretty high (probably > 60-80 euros), but it will be the fastest (~45/50 min) and safest way to reach Frascati from there at night;
- otherwise, you may still go to Rome Termini and take a taxi from there. The cost of the taxi may be a bit lower, but the whole trip will take much longer (>1.5/2 h)
Conversely, if you arrive late at CIA airport, it is much closer to Frascati, and you can take a taxi from there to Frascati. More information above.
By Underground & Bus
This method is not suggested. Even if there are no trains from Roma Termini to Frascati (late in the evening, especially in the weekend), we suggest you to take a taxi from Roma Termini to Frascati.
However, from Roma Termini you can reach Frascati also by underground + bus, following these instructions:
- Take the underground line A (Metro A) just following the M signs towards “Anagnina”. It takes about 20 min to get to Anagnina station, end of line. You may need the ATAC web page for the underground timetable, but it runs every a few minutes usually.
- Just outside Anagnina station, usually on platform 6, take the COTRAL bus directed to "FRASCATI-MONTE PORZIO-MONTE COMPATRI-ROCCA PRIORA" and stop in Frascati (Piazza Marconi). Please check the COTRAL web page for the bus timetable. The bus takes about 30 minutes to get from Anagnina underground station to Frascati.
Note: Roma Anagnina is the end of the metro line, but it is usually not a nice place where to stay if you are a turist: please be aware of pickpockets.
From Frascati to the venue (OAR)
However, as an information:
- By walk
- It takes about 40 minutes to walk from Frascati to the venue (OAR), which lies on the main road from Frascati to Monte Porzio Catone.
- By bus
- You can take a COTRAL bus in Piazza Marconi, but you should buy a ticket from a tobacconist beforehand (on the bus it costs € 7). From there, it takes about 10 min to get to the Observatory by bus. There is a bus stop just in front of the Observatory’s main gate. The timetable can be found on Moovit app, on Cotral app, or on the COTRAL web page for the bus timetable.
- By Taxi
- As an alternative, you can take a taxi from Frascati (there is a taxi station in from of the train railway and one in Piazza Marconi, very close to each other), and the taxi fare should be about 10€ to 15€.
