Palermo is the capital of Sicily and it is located on the shores of the Tirrenian Sea, in the Conca D’Oro (the Golden Valley) named so by the huge quantity of citrus trees, bordered by mountains.
Palermo was originally a port, created by the Phoenicians, but throughout history the city has been controller by other greater cultures (such us Arabs, Spanish, French...) and each left its own traces in the urban architecture, particularly evident in the religious monuments.
