Malcolm Walmsley passed away more than a year ago, but his contribution to our knowledge of the physics and chemistry of star-forming regions still is and will remain alive. In this meeting we wish to remember both the scientist and the man, by gathering Malcolm's friends and colleagues, who did benefit from his broad knowledge and profound understanding of many astrophysical topics and at the same time enjoyed his delightful personality. Some of Malcolm's former students and collaborators will illustrate the many results obtained in his long career and will discuss their impact on current studies of the interstellar medium and star formation.
