Description

The workshop will focus on the final version of the White Papers in response to the LSST Cadence Optimization call. Several science cases have been already submitted as draft to the LSST Transients and Variable Stars (TVS) Science Collaboration (SC) Task Force for Deep-drilling Fields (DDF) and Mini-survey (MS) proposals planning, with other LSST SCs also working on this issue. The scientific topics of the science cases submitted so fare are very diverse, ranging from blazars to supernovae, from young stars to pulsating stars. The aim of the workshop is to discuss the details of the White Papers before the call deadline, on November 30, 2018. Therefore, the workshop in early October is timely to review the projects gathered so far and to reinforce the collaborations, among members of different LSST Science Collaboration (Dark Energy, Transients and Variable Stars, Stars, Milky Way, and Local Volume, etc.). Each group proposing a science case will have the opportunity to present their projects with talks, but we plan also time for broad discussion among possible interested collaborators in the LSST community from US, Italy, and Europe in general. Each group proposing a project will also benefit from the support of experts of the LSST Science Collaborations, Data Management, etc., to solve any potential critical issues that may emerge at an advanced stage of the proposed projects, as well as from the presence of possible international collaborators (members of LSST) to strengthen the proposed scientific case. The Workshop is co-sponsored by the Italian National Institute for Astrophysics (INAF) and the University of Palermo, Physics and Chemistry Dep.

The SOC and all partners in the organization of this workshop are committed to providing a welcoming and productive environment at this meeting. All meeting participants will be expected to read and abide by the updated LSST Meeting Code of Conduct and by the AURA Workplace Conduct Standards
