Travelling to Naples

By plane: the Naples' international airport (Napoli- Capodichino, NAP), is located less than 6 km northeast of the city center, with direct international flights arriving and departing daily. There is a regular bus service (Alibus Shuttle) from the airport to the centre of the town. A one-way ticket costs 5euros and takes you directly to Piazza Garibaldi in just 15 minutes. Taking a taxy may be more expensive, but it's definitely the most convenient. The journey shouldn't take more than 12 minutes and will cost you a flat rate fee of ~20 euros.

By train: Naples' main train stations is called Napoli Centrale (or Piazza Garibaldi Station) and both Trenitalia (Italian national rail company) and private Italo trains arrive and depart from here. 

How to reach the INAF-Capodimonte Astronomical Observatory

From the airport:

The easiest way is to take a taxi, which should take 15 to 20 minutes in standard traffic conditions and typically cost around 20 euros. It is also possible to agree in advance with the taxi driver for a fixed rate.

Otherwise, it is possible to take a bus (alibus) and get off at the central station. Follow the instructions below to reach the observatory from the station.

From the central station (Napoli Centrale):

The easiest way is to take a taxi, which should take 10 to 15 minutes in standard traffic conditions and typically cost around 15 euros. It is also possible to agree in advance with the taxi driver on a fixed rate.

Otherwise, it is possible to take Metro line 2 (From the "Piazza Garibaldi" station) and get off at the "Piazza Cavour" stop. Once you get off at the stop, you can take a pedestrian tunnel towards the Archaeological Museum, therefore, once you exit the tunnel, you need to go to one of the bus stops and take one of the following buses:

168 or 178: p.zza Museo - v. S. Teresa degli Scalzi - c.so Amedeo di Savoia- Tondo di Capodimonte - Basilica Incoronata - Via Giardini della Principessa Jolanda (Regresso) - Museo di Capodimonte (Porta Piccola). 
C63: p.zza Museo - v. S. T. degli Scalzi - c.so A. di Savoia - Tondo di Capodimonte - Basilica Incoronata - Giardini della Principessa Jolanda (Regresso) - v. Capodimonte (Porta Grande) 
204: Museo Nazionale - v. S. Teresa degli Scalzi - c.so Amedeo di Savoia - Tondo di Capodimonte (Regresso)

Once you arrive at Porta Piccola, it will be necessary to enter the Capodimonte park and reach Porta Grande. From Porta Grande, in a few minutes on foot, through via Sant'Antonio a Capodimonte, you will reach Salita Moiariello and, therefore, the Observatory.

By car:

It is necessary to take the "Tangenziale" up to the exit Capodimonte and continue on Via Capodimonte (obligatory direction), then make the roundabout going up again in via Capodimonte, to reach the intersection with the traffic light. Then turn right and after about 200m turn right again to reach via S.Antonio a Capodimonte. Then go straight on, keeping to the left, going up Salita Moiariello, and after ~ 100m you will find the entrance to the observatory on the right.
