For Those Driving to Campus
Here is the searchable map of campus and the surrounding areas, including the Metro station.
Note: Additional Traffic on Campus Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday
On June 2-4 the campus will be hosting highschool graduations at 9:00am and 1:00pm at the Xfinity Center. This may result in increased traffic at the main campus entrance as well as the Paint Branch Drive entrance. This traffic tends to peak about 30 minutes before the start of the graduation ceremony. Getting off campus should not present a problem, given our schedule.
The graduates and their families will be directed to parking that has been reserved for them, far away from the Regents and Union Lane garages recommended for our IVOA attendees. You may see traffic control wardens in yellow vests in the roads and intersections to direct people and answer questions. If asked, tell them you are attending the IVOA conference at Edward St. John, and they will wave you through or provide you with directions to the Regents Drive or Union Lane garages.
Parking on Campus
The closest garages to the ESJ Center are the Regents Drive garage and the Union Lane garage. The Regents Drive garage is closer to the main campus entrance on Rte 1 (Baltimore Ave.) and is downhill of ESJ. The Union Lane garage is closer to the Stadium Drive entrance on Rte 193 (University Blvd.) on the opposite side of campus, and is uphill of ESJ.
The parking rate on campus is $20 per day. You can pay-and-display, or pay via the ParkMobile app. Information on using pay stations or the ParkMobile app, as well as other useful links, are on the Visitor Parking Information page.
Parking at the College Park Metro Station
The College Park Metro station is one of the few stations on the line with parking facilities that will accept a credit card for payment (rather than a Metro fare card). Parking here is about $5/day whether or not you have just ridden the Metro. Here is the Parking info for the College Park-U of Md station. From this station, you can take the free UMD shuttle (no ID required) from the station to the Regents Drive garage stop, at which point you are about 3 blocks from ESJ. The shuttle runs every 15 minutes during the morning, and the ride from the Metro to the Regents Drive garage is also about 15 minutes. Make sure you board the bus at Bay E, and are headed for "UMD Main Campus". Here is the schedule and route map for the campus shuttle.
Note that the Xfinity Center is not the "SECU Stadium" referred to in the College Park Metro parking information. The graduation traffic should not trigger the $15 event surcharge for parking at the Metro station. It is a normal work week, however, so the later you arrive the more you may have to hunt for a parking place.
