Description

This meeting has the purpose of celebrating the resilience of our friend and mentor Silvio Bonometto in doing active research in Cosmology and Large-Scale Structure of the Universe.

Participation is upon invitation only.

Suggested Hotels

Please, find below a pdf with the list of Hotels located at short walking distance from the conference room or close to the beautiful Piazza Unita d'Italia.

Getting There

By Airplane:

  • Venice Airport

From Venice (about 2 hours by car):

there are convenient buses (about 10 Euros) such as Flixbus or BusCenter. These will directly arrive to Trieste (close to the train station). You should buy a ticket in advance from their website. Please check the departure location (it might be few hundred meters from the airport).

There are also shared taxis (the price largely depends on when you reserve them, if weeks in advance it might be 20 Euros - up to 100 Eur): Goopti, ScienceBus. They typically run to Trieste train station but for a small extra they can take you closer to your hotel.

Finally, the local transportation: Express bus to Mestre (~8 Euros - tickets can be bought also inside the airport) and Train from Mestre to Trieste (see the link to the Trenitalia website below ~15/20 Euros).

  • Trieste Airport (Ronchi dei Legionari)

From Ronchi: Local Bus (~5 Euros and about 1 hour), Goopti, ScienceBus (about 20/30 Euros, need to be reserved in advance, 30 minutes), taxi (about 50/60 Euros, 30 minutes), Train (from Trieste Airport to Trieste Centrale).

By Train:

Italy's national train service, Trenitalia, operates frequent services between several major cities in Italy and Trieste (Trieste Central Station).

For schedule information, please visit the Trenitalia website.

Most of the hotels in the suggested list are at walking distance from the train station. Those located in Piazza Unita' d'Italia (Gran Duchi d'Aosta and Savoia Excelsior Palace) can be reached by local bus (line 8) or taxi. Taxis can be hailed from outside the station. (Note: each piece of luggage is charged and taxi fares are higher at night and on holidays).

By Car:

Take the A4 motorway from Venice-Mestre, or the A23 motorway from Tarvisio- Austria. Exit Trieste Lisert (toll payment). Keep following the motorway. Exit at  Sistiana-Strada Costiera, then take route SS 14, a panoramic road leading directly to the city centre (about 30 km).

The parking structure at Pier IV (Molo IV Parking) is the most convenient location.
