The Transient and Variable Stars (TVS) Science Collaboration invites its members to an international meeting hosted by INAF – Osservatorio Astronomico di Palermo. The meeting will review the first science results from the Vera C. Rubin Observatory Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST).
With the First Look milestone, Data Preview 2 and the start of operations in 2026 behind us, the meeting comes at a key moment. The collaboration can assess what the first months of LSST data reveal and plan the scientific strategy for the years ahead.
The meeting will bring together the members of the TVS Science Collaboration to analyse the first unprecedented LSST datasets, coordinate follow-up strategies across multiple facilities, and define community-wide approaches to AI-driven discovery in the transient and variable sky.
Dedicated sessions will cover AI and machine-learning methods for real-time alert classification, anomaly detection, and scalable light-curve analysis on early LSST data products, directly supporting the priorities of the TVS SC Roadmap.
Training and inclusion
The meeting places strong emphasis on training early-career researchers and new Rubin users. It also welcomes participants from under-represented communities, to support inclusive and sustainable growth of the TVS community.
