Description
GAPS (Global Architecture of Planetary Systems) is a synergic research program dedicated to a better understanding of the census and architecture of planetary systems around different kinds of stars in the Galaxy and a study of the properties, including chemical composition, angular momentum, and magnetic activity, of the host stars. To reach these goals, GAPS makes use of HARPS-N, the high-resolution spectrograph installed in summer 2012 at the Telescopio Nazionale Galileo that provides unrivalled precise radial velocity measurements, and of several other instruments, especially for follow-up observations. The 7th GAPS Progress Meeting is the second plenary meeting of the GAPS collaboration in 2015. It will be dedicated to the presentation and the discussion of the new results obtained by the collaboration and to the work in progress. GAPS coordinated program elements are dedicated to search for planets orbiting M dwarfs, metal-poor stars, and stars in open clusters; to a better understanding of the planetary content and architecture of already known planetary systems through long-term radial velocity monitoring and the measurements of the Rossiter-McLaughlin effect; to the study of the interactions between stars and their close-in planets, including effects on stellar activity and the evolution of angular momentum.
