Venue
The workshop will take place at the CNR facilities located in Via dei Taurini 19, 00185 Rome, Italy. The room is located on the ground floor, opposite the main entrance.
Accessing the venue
In order to avoid issues with accessing the venue, participants must pick up their name badge during registration at 14:00 on Monday. Please bring proof of ID with you, as it may be requested to enter the site.
Reaching the venue
The venue is located approximately 10–15 minutes on foot from the Termini station, which is Rome’s main station, and from which various public transport options can be accessed. These include trains, metros (Lines A and B), trams, and buses.
The Leonardo Express is a direct train connecting Rome’s main airport, Fiumicino (also referred to as Leonardo da Vinci International Airport), to the Termini station. The trip takes approximately 30 minutes, with trains departing every 15 minutes, and the cost is €14 each way. Tickets can be purchased online, or via the ticket offices or self-service machines at the stations.
Public transport is also available from Rome’s Ciampino (G. B. Pastine) airport.
You can purchase several passes that allow you to use all forms of public transport within Rome (i.e. trains, metros, trams, and buses) and include routes to either airport (NB: the Leonardo Express is excluded). You can find more information on ATAC's website. Available passes include ones lasting 24 hours (€8.50), 48 hours (€15.00), 72 hours (€22.00), and 7 days (€29.00). Alternatively, you can purchase individual tickets or use contactless payment (Tap & Go). Remember to validate your tickets.
Amenities + Accommodation
There is a plethora of restaurants, coffee shops, and accommodation options around Termini. If you choose to stay farther from the venue or the Termini station, we recommend looking at areas close to Metro stations. You may want to avoid relying on buses, as traffic can be unpredictable.
For reference, the Colosseum is a 20-minute walk from Termini. Public transport connections are also available.
Program highlights
The workshop will start at 14:00 on Monday, giving participants the option to travel to Rome on Monday morning, and it will end by 12:30 on Wednesday. The room is booked for the entirety of Wednesday, so those wishing to continue working may use the room in the afternoon.
A group photo will be taken on the morning of Tuesday, 20 October, as indicated in the timetable.
Presentations
During registration, you will be asked whether you want to give an oral presentation. If you choose to present, please provide the title of your talk in the relevant field.
Participants attending online may present remotely.
Each presenter is given up to 30 minutes, including questions. The presentations follow a casual workshop format, where active discussions are encouraged (allocating around 10 minutes for discussion).
Presentations will not be recorded, but slides will be shared after the workshop.
Note that during presentations, participants are expected to share their slides from their own computer. Information on how to connect online (and share slides) will be sent to all participants before the workshop. For an optimal presentation display, please use a 16:9 aspect ratio (widescreen) when preparing your slides.
Italian power sockets
Italy uses Type L and Type F (the standard European) power sockets. Both types will be available at the venue, but elsewhere you may find only one type (typically Type L). To complicate things a bit more, Type L sockets come in two variants (10A and 16A) that are not always interchangeable. Please bring a universal travel adaptor compatible with Italian sockets to avoid any issues.
Social dinner
The social dinner will take place at 19:30 on Tuesday, 20 October, at Osteria al Vicolo 9 (Vicolo dei Serpenti 9, 00184 Rome). Since no registration fee is collected for this workshop, participants are expected to cover the costs of the social dinner themselves.
Dietary requirements
Any dietary requirements must be stated in the relevant field of the registration form. Changes to dietary requirements may not be possible after the registration closes.

Average temperatures in October can vary from about 25 degrees during the day to about 12 degrees at night.
