Description

1st Meeting of the Italian scientific community working on extrasolar planets.

26-27-28 February 2025
Rome

The Italian scientific community studying extrasolar planets has experienced remarkable growth in recent years. This success stems from the extensive use of facilities like the TNG under the GAPS (Global Architecture of Planetary Systems) collaboration, active participation in groundbreaking space missions such as Gaia, CHEOPS, PLATO, and Ariel, and the scientific exploitation of cutting-edge instruments like SPHERE, ERIS, SHARK-NIR, SHARK-VIS, JWST, and ALMA. Moreover, close collaboration with instrumentation teams is paving the way for the development of next-generation facilities.

Despite these advancements, a comprehensive meeting uniting the entire Italian exoplanet community has been absent for many years. Now is the perfect moment to come together—to exchange ideas, strengthen collaborations, and build synergies across the diverse expertise within our community. This gathering will also be a unique opportunity to connect with young researchers working and training on exoplanetary science in Italy.

Above all, it will provide a platform to discuss the future of this dynamic field, addressing key topics such as scientific priorities, research organization and funding, technological and instrumental advancements, Italy’s role in the international context, and the role of universities in shaping researchers for this rapidly evolving discipline. Crucially, it will also explore interactions with related fields, including astrobiology, astrochemistry, star formation, and planetary science, to drive innovation and expand our horizons.

The 1st meeting of the Italian community involved in the exoplanetary science will be held in Rome on 26-28 February 2025 at the historic Palazzo Corsini, Accademia dei Lincei.

Registrations and the call for abstracts are now open, with a deadline of January 9, 2024. Both in-person and remote attendance options are available. Participants are invited to submit abstracts for contributions. A maximum of two submissions are possible for each registered participant. The first one can be a contributed talk or a poster that will be displayed at the conference venue and could also be made available on the meeting web page as an e-poster.  The second one can only be an e-poster. In-person attendance is strongly encouraged for those presenting contributed talks.

There is no registration fee. A social dinner will be held on the evening of Thursday, February 27, 2025.
