Rationale
Cosmology is living a vibrant period in its millenary life. The spectacular results from observations of the Cosmic Microwave Background and other astrophysical probes, as well from particle physics experiments, have revealed new unforeseen and more questions about the fundamental nature of the Universe and its history. Proving the existence of inflation in the early Universe and understanding the nature of the quantum field driving it and studying the properties of Dark Matter and Dark Energy (or of alternative scenarios) in the context of theories of fundamental interactions is one of the major goals of modern Science. To address these questions, major observational projects as well as numerical and and theoretical efforts are being developed at the international level. The Italian community is at the forefront of these researches, with scientists from INAF, INFN, ASI and Universities collaborating (and competing) within their areas of expertise. INAF, in particular, after having contributed to major CMB experiments is now heavily engaged in the Euclid missions and in many other observational efforts across the full electromagnetic and gravitational spectrum.
Goals of the workshop
The workshop has three main goals:
- To present the status and the perspectives of current research in cosmology, providing a grand picture of the status of the field and an arena to analyse the perspectives of astrophysical observations as main probes;
- To identify a strategy and a set of activities that should be developed in order to maximize the scientific return from the various cosmological projects in which it is involved;
- To strengthen the collaboration and the synergies among researchers at INAF, Universities, INFN, ASI and other institutes.
Format
The workshop will be organized across three days, from February 11th to 13th. It will be followed by the Euclid Italian Consortium Meeting, extending to February 14th. The workshop is introduced by a series of reviews that will describe the status and the perspectives of the main branches modern cosmology: the search for DM particles, Dark Energy vs. Modified Gravity models, Inflation in the Early Universe, Multimessenger astrophysics, Gravitational Waves.
An updated versions of the programs of the Conference as well as of the Euclid consortium meeting are shown here
The main program will be organized in three major Sessions: Cosmic Microwave Background, Large Scale Structures and Clustering, Other Astrophysical Probes. Each session is organized in order to guarantee ample space for discussions and contribution. Each session will be introduced by three “discussion leaders”, who will make brief presentations to introduce the topics and lead a public discussion at the end of each session.
Each session will have both solicited speakers and space available for contributed talks and posters.
The deadline for contribution (oral and posters) is December 21, 2018.
A special lecture celebrating the Gruber Prize to Planck will be held by R. Mandolesi during the conference.
Registration
Registration is mandatory for all participants.
The deadline for registration is January 15. The deadline is strict due to organisational constraints, so we invite all interested participants to register in due time.
A conference fee of about 100-150 Euro is foreseen and will cover lunches for all days of the conference.
Contributed Talks
Space is given for contributed talks and posters. We will do our best to accomodate as many contributions as possible, but given the limited time we could be forced to make a selection. For contributed talks not accepted there will be the possibility to be presented as posters. The deadline for contribution (oral and posters) is December 21, 2018.
