The formation and evolution of disks in young stellar objects, together with related phenomena (accretion, jets, and winds), is a research field rapidly growing since the last years. This is mainly due both to the recognized importance of disk evolution to settle the initial conditions for the formation of planetary systems, and to the increasingly higher quality of observations of disk systems provided by new instrumentation at high spatial and spectral resolution from the optical to the radio domain.

This workshop, organized by the Italian JEDI (Jets and Disk at INAF) community, will bring together researchers working on this field, with the aim to discuss about new projects and synergies in view of the new cutting-edge observational facilities that are now available or will become operative in the near future.

The topics that will be discussed include:

  • Formation and properties of disks in the protostellar phase
  • Accretion and disk-star interaction
  • Ejection of matter through jets and winds
  • Chemical and physical evolution of the disk gas and dust
  • Disk dispersal
  • Formation of proto-planets

This workshop will allow the Italian community working in these different areas to present their recent works, to exchange ideas, and to foster new collaborations. The final goal will be to create the environment for a better exploitation of the present and future facilities at high angular and spectral resolution in which Italy is directly involved (e.g., XAO imagers on LBT and VLT, ELT-MAORY/HIRES, ALMA, SKA), as well as to best face the competition on large international projects, such as JWST. To this aim, part of  the invited talks will be devoted to presentations by experts of these facilities.

Young Italian researchers working both in Italy and abroad are encouraged to participate in order to create a young community able to meet the challenges of the future large projects in which Italy is involved.
