Description

The SRT represents a large investment by national and regional governments, INAF, and the Italian Space Agency (ASI), as well as a large human effort from OAC and other INAF Structures over an extended period of time. Thus, the primary goal for SRT operations is to generate high impact science and to efficiently serve a user community of Italian and international astronomers over the coming decades. The ability to deliver on this goal will depend on a stable and experienced SRT Operations Team, containing individuals dedicating a significant fraction of their time to supporting the SRT and its users. This will particularly be required in the early years of full SRT operations.

The goals of this workshop are:

  • To present the technical schedule of activity during 2017/18 to complete the functionality of the SRT (including repairs to the surface actuator system) and the infrastructure of the SRT site;
  • To present the current plans to build the SRT Operations Team, following feedback from those involved in operations during the early science phase of the SRT;
  • To discuss the current plans for the SRT operations framework;
  • To discuss the finalisation of the SRT Operations Team in early 2017;
  • To discuss the final stages of engineering and science commissioning for the SRT, currently scheduled for late 2017 and the first half of 2018;
  • To discuss the final transition to full operations, most likely in the second half of 2018.

Following this workshop, the Operations Team will be finalised in early 2017 and the implementation of the transition to full SRT operations will commence by mid 2017.
 The workshop is primarily intended for INAF staff working in areas closely related to SRT operations, but the meeting is open to anyone with a special interest in SRT operations.  We note that this is not a meeting to discuss science with the SRT, but the mechanics of operations. A limit of 80 people exists, due to the venue.
